Gov’t Mule

When you’re a fundamental part of one of the most renowned rock bands of all time, it’s a pretty clear indication that you are an exquisitely talented musician. Such was the case for not one, but two members of Gov’t Mule: Warren Haynes and Allen Woody, who contributed to the Allman Brothers Band. This duo put together a side project in the early 90’s, and with the addition of drummer Matt Abts, the “power trio” of Gov’t Mule was forever formed. With a sound steeped in their rock roots (and a touch of grunge – prevalent at the time they were spawned), they released three impressive albums. The sad passing of Woody in 2000 shook the group up significantly, but with Danny Louis on board in 2001, and Jorgen Carlsson teaming up in 2008, Mule has been a 4-piece ever since. In 2016 fans were treated to a remastered, premiere-release of the band’s 1994-recorded The Tel-Star Sessions.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood

For a chilled-out, bluesy jam band, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood is blazingly ambitious. Before they had even laid down a studio track, they were touring all over California, rocking fifty shows in just a few months. This was in 2011, and by 2012 they’d let loose two full-length albums. Their lusciously lunar debut Big Moon Ritual immediately garnered attention, and the successive, trippy The Magic Door didn’t disappoint their growing legion of fans. Rolling Stone would call their next record Phosphorescent Harvest “downright magnetic,” and their swirling, signature live performances are proclaimed as some of the most invigorating in the business. If the name Chris Robinson sounds familiar, it’s because he was the lead singer of the infamous band The Black Crowes (the CRB initially formed while the Crowes were on hiatus). Many believe that the CRB is his singular true calling.
