Central Park is one of the best places in New York City to bring a date. A major advantage of the park is that many of its attractions are low-cost.
The gold standard of Central Park dates is the romantic horse-and-carriage ride. With the aid of roofed carriage, it is one of the few Central Park activities that can be enjoyed in the rain, and it is particularly beautiful in the snow.
The Central Park Zoo is a good choice for a daytime date. Even though it is mainly geared toward children and families, the zoo has much to offer for a date. The animal exhibits are excellent for provoking conversation, and the zoo offers many quiet spots to enjoy conversation between the exhibits. Exotic animals, such as polar bears and penguins, take the pressure off in terms of coming up with conversation topics.
A picnic on one of the park’s many lawns is a good way to get to know your date. There are few interruptions to conversation on a picnic. Best of all, you can choose a spot that is as public or secluded as you like. Strawberry Fields, inspired by the Beatles’ song, and the Great Lawn are particularly popular picnic spots. If you don’t relish creating a picnic basket, there is an abundance of take-out restaurants and corner bodegas on both the East and West sides of the park that can furnish you with a picnic-friendly lunch. Another advantage of a picnic, in terms of a first-date activity, is its location. If your picnic goes well, you can choose from many other central park activities to extend your date.
Rowboat rentals are available on Central Park Lake for reasonable hourly rates. These offer a wonderful opportunity to have a quiet conversation with your date; allowing you to view the excitement of the park without being interrupted or disturbed. Walking through one of the park’s many trails is a pleasant and low-key date activity.
