Life in the Fast Lane - Renting an Exotic Car in Central Park
In the Big Apple, money makes the world go 'round. Think Trump, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt. So how can you feel like New York royalty, even for a day? One way is to rent an exotic car.
You can rent a car at a variety of price points. For example, you can get a Chevy Corvette for about $350 per day, a Ferrari 450 Italia for $2,500 per day or a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster for $5,000 per day. If you do get an exotic car in the city, though, the question is where do you drive it?
Central Park - Ideal for a Scenic Drive around the City
If you're renting a luxury car, you're probably not doing so to get from here to there. You want a joy ride, right? Central Park is ideal for this, as it offers sweeping views of the city and you're not going to get stuck in Manhattan gridlock.
The park has a few main drives on which you can take your car. The best place to drive to get a great view of the city is along the drives in the north end of the park. The drives here are a little more curvy and hilly, so you're bound to see more of the city and its sights.
Driving Rules You Need to Follow
However, when driving in Central Park, you need to follow the rules. You can't just zip around the drives, no matter how flashy and fast your car. For example, the speed limit in the park is 25 mph, and you don't want to go over that. With the number of pedestrians and bikers in the park, going any faster is an accident waiting to happen.
In addition, the park drives are only open during certain hours. They are:
» West Drive: Open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and only to high-occupancy vehicles.
» East Drive (from 72nd St./Fifth Ave. to 110th St.): Weekdays 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
» 72nd St. Cross Drive: Weekdays 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The park is closed to all traffic from 7:00 p.m. Friday through 7:00 a.m. Monday.

Where to Drive after Central Park
After you leave Central Park, you can make your way to Madison Avenue which is host to some of the world's highest-end shops such as Barney's, Emporio Armani and Ralph Lauren.
Of course, if you shop here (and also if you are driving a luxury car), you'll also want to look the part. Before your ride, you can purchase driving clothes and accessories such as a Forzieri leather jacket, Prada driving shoes, Chopard sunglasses and Scuderia Ferrari Watches.
Even if you don't have a million bucks, you can feel like you do for a day. If you do decide to rent an exotic car in Manhattan, make sure you drive safely, and also make sure you have fun!
