Cornelian Cherry

The Cornelian cherry is sometimes known as the European cornel. It is a member of the Cornaceae family. Like many plants that are part of the Conservatory Garden, the Cornelian cherry is a hardy plant that can grow in many different types of environments. Unlike other trees, the Cornelian cherry is able to survive frosts that can occur even in the early spring. This tree grows up to 20 feet tall and displays small yellow blooms beginning in March. By summer, small red berries are visible. These trees can survive even in partial shade, making them ideal to give height and color to the Conservatory Garden even when other plants are not yet in bloom.
