High Temperature Record Broken

June 11, 2008

For the second day in a row, the 96-degree heat and electricity use set new records for Central Park.  It also caused residents to turn their air conditioners up to get through the unusual four-day June heat wave.

Con Ed was forced to work around the clock to repair sporadic outages from Williamsburg to Westchester County. Big commercial electricity users, including railroads, hospitals and government agencies, dusted off energy-saving plans typically unveiled in the dog days of August, like turning off down escalators or using backup generators.
