'Refugee Camp' To Be Built In Central Park
February 27, 2006
This September Central Park visitors will encounter an 8,000 sq. ft. refugee camp replica. The exhibit is planned by a humanitarian group, Doctors Without Borders, and is called "Refugee in the Heart of the City." The refugee camps won't be housing actual refugees, but are intended to show New Yorkers what it would be like to live in one. Spokeswoman for the Central Park Conservancy, Jennifer Pucci, says "This is something we are looking forward to having here. We believe they will be very responsible to the park. It's a permitted event and it is educational."
