Pets Take Center Stage in Central Park

This afternoon, actress Bernadette Peters will host the seventh annual Broadway Barks, a dog and cat adopt-a-thon extraordinaire in Shubert Alley, where a cast of celebrities will share the stage with gaggles of adoptable animals.

"We are deeply moved by the enthusiasm and support from the legions of fans and animal lovers who attend the event every year," said Peters, who adopted her dogs Stella, a pit-bull mix, and mutt Kramer, from the Animal Care & Control shelter and ASPCA.

Peters created the event with actress Mary Tyler Moore seven years ago to promote the adoption of shelter animals.
