Group Pushes to Construct a Panda Pavilion in Central Park

Published on Feb 01, 2017

Billionaire former mayoral candidate John Catsimatidis, a co-chair of the effort, said he spoke to a representative from the Trump Organization about Donald Jr. and Eric Trump joining the push to import two breedable pandas from China.

The group’s goal is to have private funding cover the entire cost of the multimillion-dollar project. The Panda Ball - a fund-raiser at the Waldorf-Astoria on Feb. 8, is expected to raise anywhere from $500,000 to $4 million.

The panda campaign has bipartisan support. Rep. Carolyn Maloney has pushed the project for years, joining GOPer Catsimatidis and state Republican Party Chairman Ed Cox.

The Trump Organization had no comment on the request for the president’s sons to join the panda project.

The plan is to construct the Panda Pavilion in the less-trafficked northern section of Central Park.
