Though he lost his featherweight world title last month, Orlando Cruzwon his man last weekend. Cruz, the first openly gay professional boxer in history married Jose Manuel Colon in Central Park last Saturday.
The ceremony was officiated by New York City council member Melissa Mark-Viverito and the witnesses were Cruz's good friend Pedro Julio Serrano, of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and Shirley Casiano.
The former Sydney Olympian wore rainbow boxing shorts and pink gloves in the title fight he lost to Orlando "Siri" Salido in order to show support for both LGBT rights and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but turned up formally dressed for the ceremony with his partner in matching black vests and ties with white jackets.
Cruz came out publicly as a gay man in October 2012 and in August this year he was among the first inductees of the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame.
