Scarlet-chested parrot (Neophema splendida)
Where found: In arid areas of southern Australia. At the CPZ, you will find this species in the Desert exhibit just outside the exit to the Tropic building.
Diet : Seeds and grasses.
Description : Scarlet-chested parrots have, surprisingly, a scarlet chest! The face is bright blue, becoming darker on the throat. The back and rump are green with the under parts being yellow. The bill is black.

Thick-billed parrot (Rhynchopsitta pachyrhyncha)
Where found : High altitude pine forests or mixed pine forests of northwestern Mexico’s Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range. In the past, they were found as far north as Arizona and New Mexico.
Diet : Pine seeds and acorns supplemented with other seeds, nectar, flowers, fruit, and berries.
Length : Up to 15—16 inches long.
Description : Males and females are a bright green color with a scarlet forehead, wing bend, and thighs. The underside of the wings is a pale yellow. These parrots have very strong, black bills.
