The Central Park Conservancy and the Green Apple Festival will host an Earth Day Celebration for families at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park on Sunday, April 20th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Pack a picnic and bring a blanket as we celebrate with music, crafts, and activities for all.
This fun and free event will feature a jam-packed schedule of activities including live musical performances, planting and mulching projects, tree care and composting demonstrations, face painting, environmental education, and crafts with recycled materials.
Musical performances begin at 12:00 pm, featuring:
* Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder
* Big Head Todd and the Monsters
* The Bacon Brothers
* Vusi Mahlasela
* Vienna Teng
Activities for all ages begin at 12:00 pm, including:
* Recycled musical instrument-making with Materials for the Arts
* Tree tours with Josh Galiley, the Conservancy’s "tree-guy-extraordinaire"
* Make and take home your own mini vegetable garden with the Conservancy’s Environmental Stewardship Committee
* Central Park Wildlife activity with the Urban Park Rangers
* And more
Yummy local and organic snacks will be available for purchase from a few favorite Greenmarket vendors.
FREE Valet Bike Parking, provided by Transportation Alternatives, will be available.
Peace x Piece Be sure to check out the 1000-piece green mural by Paul and Mark Kostabi as part of Peace x Piece Live 2008. You can be a part of it by painting your own 6" canvas. All materials will be provided.
