MulchFest Orientation
to
MulchFest, held across the city on January 12th and 13th, is an annual NYC Parks event that takes donated holiday trees from New Yorkers and turns them into wood chips. The chips are then dispersed to tree pits and horticultural areas and create a blanket over soil allowing it to retain heat and moisture throughout the winter and inhibit weed growth.
At this orientation, volunteers will be trained as MulchFest embassadors to prepare trees for chipping, distribute bags of mulch to tree stewarts and educate others about the benifits of mulching trees. Volunteers will be able to select one of several volunteer sites across the five boroughs.
