Storytelling at the Statue of Hans Christian Andersen: The Ugly Duckling and Other Tales
to
For over 50 years, rain or shine, New York children have gathered around Hans Christian Andersen's Statue in Central Park to listen to his stories. This wonderful New York City tradition continues this summer with a new and exciting storytelling program. In addition to many of Hans Christian Andersen's classics, master storytellers will be telling some of their favorite stories from such far away places as Haiti, China, India, South Africa and Ghana. On Saturday, September 11th at 11 AM, in honor of Harriet Nilsen, Rolf Stang, Mary Ann Schmidt and Diane Wolkstein will narrate to the audience. Stories on the lineup for this event include Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling and the Most Incredible Thing of All, plus Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren. Appropriate for children ages 5 and up, the event is free and will take place at the Statue of Hans Christian Andersen on the western edge of the Conservatory Water at 72nd Street. There are similar storytelling events taking place here every Saturday during the summer; search our events calendar for further details.
