Lauren Halsey's Met Roof Garden commission draws inspiration from South Central Los Angeles.

For this year's Met Roof Garden commission, American artist Lauren Halsey has created a site-specific installation titled "the eastside of south central los angeles hieroglyph prototype architecture (I)" that is a full-scale architectural structure inspired by the collective energy and imagination of her hometown community of South Central Los Angeles.

Visitors to The Met are invited to explore the installation, which draws on sources such as ancient Egyptian symbolism, 1960s utopian architecture, and contemporary visual expressions like tagging, that reflect the ways people make public spaces their own.

Sunday–Tuesday and Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Friday and Saturday: 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM

Closed Wednesdays
