The Public Theater has announced the upcoming productions and casts for this year's Shakespeare in the Park. This will be its 52nd year of bringing free theater to Central Park audiences.
From June 3 through July 6, Lily Rabe ("American Horror Story") will be appearing, after her last performance in the park two years ago as Beatrice in "Much Ado About Nothing." Hamish Linklater ("The Crazy Ones") will be returning for a second year in a row as Benedick. Tony award-winner Jack O'Brien will direct.
The company will be reviving their production of "King Lear" for the first time since 1973 from July 22 through August 17. John Lithgow, who has not appeared in the park since 1975, will play the title role. Tony winner Daniel Sullivan will direct.
Tickets to all shows are free and distributed, two per person, on the day of the show at Central Park's Delacorte Theater. The Public Theater offers free tickets through a Virtual Ticketing lottery on the day of the show. You can register here.
