May 29th, 2026 - Directed by Penny Lane, "Wild Inside" tells the full story of Flaco, the Eurasian eagle-owl who escaped the Central Park Zoo in February 2023 after an unknown vandal cut his enclosure. Capture efforts failed, and Flaco spent a year living freely across New York City before dying from rat poison and pigeon herpes in 2024.
The film goes beyond the escape itself, tracing Flaco's origins, his family tree, and broader questions about zoo ethics and Eurasian eagle-owls as a species. A trailer dropped this week alongside the premiere announcement.
The Central Park screening on July 29 is free. The documentary then opens at Manhattan's IFC Center on July 31 and rolls out to select theaters nationwide, with showings scheduled on International Owl Awareness Day on August 4.
