Great performers are already lined up for Central Park SummerStage 2013. Founded in 1986, the SummerStage Festival features performances spanning World and American music, modern dance, spoken word, electronic music, and family programming.
Central Park SummerStage is an outdoor venue, located at Rumsey Playfield, which is right off the 5th Avenue and 69th Street entrance to Central Park. The festival runs during the months of June, July, and August, and offers approximately 30-35 free-of-charge performing events. All SummerStage shows go on rain or shine and are only cancelled in the event of dangerous lightning during a performance.
Most of the concerts throughout the summer are privately funded and may be enjoyed by the general public at no cost with the exception of some of the bigger shows on the Mainstage in the park.
On Tuesday, June 11, City Parks Foundation (CPF) will welcome guests to their Annual Gala presented at SummerStage. The evening will help raise significant funds to support CPF's year-round free arts, sports, and education programs. The performance will feature Michael Feinstein and his big band performing the music of Frank Sinatra. A gig by Joan Baez/Indigo Girls on Monday, June 17 will also raise funds for the CPF cause.
The month of July will bring She & Him/Camera Obscura on Saturday, July 6th, and Red Baraat will take the stage on Sunday, July 14. Ben Howard and Michael Kiwanuka are slated to perform on Monday, July 29. Howard recently won two Brit Awards for Best Male Solo Artist and Breakthrough Act.
