Historic Harlem Parks Film Festival: Through African Eyes & Prized Pieces

Short Film: The Colonial Friend/lami ya bon (Rachid Bouchareb, Algeria/France, 2004)

French with English subtitles. Animated film recording a 1944 incident in which Senegalese veterans were gunned down after demanding to receive payment for their military service.
Feature Film: Hyenas (Djibril Diop Mambety, Senegal, 1992) — 113 minutes
Wolof with English subtitles.  Mambety's second and last feature adapts a timeless parable of human greed into a biting satire of today's Africa, where the hopes of independence are betrayed for the empty promises of Western materialism.
