Who Should Visit FIFA Arena
FIFA Arena is free and needs no registration, which makes it one of the few truly open-entry World Cup experiences in the city. A few groups in particular will get the most out of it.
- Kids who play soccer. The Youth Skills Academy on June 20 (ages 6 to 14, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM) and the U.S. Soccer Girls Summit on July 11 (10:00 AM to 2:00 PM) are built for younger players. Open play sessions work for any age and any skill level.
- Families who want a free morning activity. The 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM sessions give you two solid hours without tickets, lines, or cost. Tavern on the Green is steps away when you're ready for lunch.
- Fans in the city without stadium tickets. FIFA Arena puts you in the middle of the World Cup atmosphere, playing or watching alongside fans from Brazil, France, Germany, and England on the same days their teams are playing nearby.
- Visitors who want to decompress after a match day. The evening sessions run 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A relaxed pick-up game in the park is a different kind of wind-down after a full match day at MetLife.
What to Do Before and After
FIFA Arena sits on the western edge of the park, a short walk from the 66th and 72nd Street entrances and close to some of the park's most-visited landmarks. Plan on one to two hours for open play, or the full session if you're here for a structured event like the Youth Skills Academy or the Neighborhood Cup.
Sheep Meadow, a five-minute walk east, is a natural place to decompress after the pitch.
A guided bike tour is the single most efficient way to see the park before or after the pitch. The two-hour tour departs from West 58th Street, about a 10-minute walk from FIFA Arena, and covers attractions like Wollman Rink, Bethesda Fountain, and Strawberry Fields. $49 per adult. Groups are capped at 15. Book in advance, especially on match days.
If you'd rather skip the pedaling, a pedicab tour covers the same landmarks with no physical effort. Pedicabs start at $150 and hold up to three passengers, so it's an efficient option for families with younger kids, mixed groups, or anyone who's already put in a long tournament day. The route includes photo stops along the way.
For a longer stay, a picnic experience is a good way to settle in. Setup and cleanup are handled for you, and the Gold Picnic Experience starts at $375 for two with food, blankets, and a lakeside location included.
For a slower afternoon, the Central Park Boathouse is about a 15-minute walk northeast. It sits on the Lake near Bethesda Fountain and has appeared in films including When Harry Met Sally and Enchanted. Rowboat rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at $25 per hour. The lakeside restaurant has outdoor seating and full table service, no reservation required for the café.
