Free storytelling returns to the Hans Christian Andersen statue every Saturday this summer.
From June 6 through August 29, 2026, you can catch free storytelling at the Hans Christian Andersen statue near the Model Boat Pond at Conservatory Water, every Saturday at 11:00 AM. The sessions are open to all ages, with stories recommended for children six and up.
Now in its 70th summer in Central Park, the program pairs Andersen's own fairy tales with folktales from around the world, told by a rotating group of professional storytellers. Past seasons have brought celebrity guests to the statue too, including Victor Borge, Eva la Gallienne, Fanny Hurst, and Celeste Holm.
The 2026 schedule is below. For more on the statue itself and its history, see Hans Christian Andersen.
