Exploring Hallett and the Pond Tour in September
to
The Hallett Nature Sanctuary, located just a few dozen yards from the traffic of 5th Avenue and the Plaza Hotel, is a four acre plot of land featuring an amazing array of migratory birds, such as bluejays and woodpeckers. Also, on the premise are rabbits, raccoons and woodchucks.
Of course, the beautiful creatures found here make this part of Central Park special; but the fact that it is normally closed to the public, also heightens the appeal. During the months of August and September, the Central Park Conservancy is offering free guided tours of Hallett!
It is the smallest woodland area in the park, so the peaceful tour only takes a quick 30 minutes. On the way, you can learn the history of the area and explore the waterfall nestled in the woods. Each tour starts at 12 PM. The dates are scheduled as follows for September: (Click here for August dates).
Thursday, September 2 Wednesday, September 8 Tuesday, September 14 Wednesday, September 29
Meet at the Artists' Gate at 6th Avenue and Central Park South and make sure to arrive a bit earlier than the scheduled time, as the tour is limited to the first 20 people. Call 212-794-4064 for further details.
It is recommended that groups of seven people or more should call 212-360-2726 to schedule a private and custom tour.
