noskys baroque band naumburg orchestral concerts
Enjoy an evening of Baroque music featuring Don Quixote told through Telemann's strings.
On August 4, Nosky's Baroque Band closes the 2026 Naumburg season with a free all-Baroque evening at the Bandshell, led by violinist and director Aisslinn Nosky. The program includes Telemann's Burlesque de Quixotte Suite, a piece of music that follows Don Quixote through his most famous adventures, from charging at windmills to Rosinante's gallop, told entirely through strings. No tickets, no reservations, just arrive by 7:30 PM.
The program spans four Baroque composers and features two soloists. Nosky leads on violin, and baroque trumpet specialist Steve Marquardt joins for Torelli's Trumpet Concerto in D and Telemann's Concerto for Trumpet and Strings, bookending an evening that moves through Corelli, Bach, and more Telemann in between.
Aisslinn Nosky has served as concertmaster of the Handel and Haydn Society since 2011, one of the world's longest continuously performing musical organizations, founded in Boston in 1815. The New York Times has called her "superb" and the Toronto Star described her as "a fearsomely powerful musician." As soloist and director she has performed with the New World Symphony, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and Juilliard415, among others, and was a core member of Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra from 2005 to 2016.
Steve Marquardt is a baroque trumpet and natural horn specialist based in New York who performs regularly with the Handel and Haydn Society, Trinity Church Wall Street, Apollo's Fire, and the American Classical Orchestra, and has appeared with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, and the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra.
This is the final concert of the 2026 Naumburg season, which also marks the 100th anniversary of the Walter W. Naumburg International Competition.
The concert is free and open to all. Seating is first-come, first-served. The performance will be broadcast live and streamed on WQXR.
