delirium musicum naumburg orchestral concerts
Join Delirium Musicum for a free evening of music spanning four centuries at the Naumburg Bandshell.
On July 7, Delirium Musicum makes their Naumburg Orchestral Concerts debut at the Bandshell, bringing a program that moves from Kodály and Saint-Saëns to Max Richter and Vivaldi in a single evening, free and open to anyone who shows up. No tickets, no reservations, just arrive by 7:30 PM.
The program is one of the most wide-ranging of the season. It includes Max Richter's The Four Seasons Recomposed, his reimagining of Vivaldi that has introduced millions of listeners to classical music without them realizing it, alongside Vivaldi's original Winter from The Four Seasons, Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre, and works by Philip Glass, Jessie Montgomery, and Gabriella Smith. Several pieces have been newly arranged for the ensemble by Gianluca Bersanetti.
Delirium Musicum was founded in 2018 by violinist Etienne Gara, who serves as music director and violin soloist. The LA-based orchestra draws its musicians from over ten countries across four continents, and has built a following on the strength of programs that treat the boundary between classical and contemporary music as essentially irrelevant. The San Francisco Classical Voice called them "ferocious and rhythmically mesmerizing," and the Los Angeles Times described the ensemble as "a step ahead, ready for anything, virtuosic and versatile." Their debut album Seasons was released on Warner Classics in 2023 to international acclaim, and their second album Cabinet of Curiosities followed on the same label. In 2025 they swept the San Francisco Classical Voice Audience Choice Awards, winning in all five categories they were nominated in.
This is their first appearance at the Naumburg Orchestral Concerts, one of the oldest free outdoor classical concert series in the world, now in its 121st season.
The concert is free and open to all. Seating is first-come, first-served. The performance will be broadcast live and streamed on WQXR.
