New York Social Diary reported on the annual ladies who wear hats to lunch event. They reported that yesterday was the Frederick Law Olmsted Luncheon in the Conservatory Garden in Central Park behind the Vanderbilt Gates at 105th Street and Fifth Avenue. It had a record attendance, of over 1300 people. It is alawys a huge fund-raiser, having raised $3.9 million this year. The weather this year while damp and chilly was not a deterrent.
It is hosted by the Women’s Committee of the Central Park Conservancy. This division of the Conservancy was founded by four women back in the 1980s when they decided to take the bull by the horn and clean up the Park so that it could look the way it looks today. Of those four, Norma Dana, a leader of the pack to some, was there yesterday, and pretty in pink.
NYSD covers this event every year as a tribute to the group efforts in improving the quality of life and the community for what it represents. But truthfully, the main event is the HATS. To see the great photos of the ladies in their hats, click here.
