The American Museum of Natural History has announced that The Allison and Roberto Mignone Hall of Gems and Minerals will be opening June 12th, 2021. The hall has been part of the museum since the ’70s, and closed in 2017 to be redesigned as one of the New York icon’s 150th anniversary projects. The date of reopening has been pushed back a few times because of the pandemic.
The new 11,000 square foot hall has been updated in both design and tech: there will be interactive displays, touchable specimens, and media. With the redesign, it will be connected to the new Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation, which will flow much better and allow for less congestion.
All in all, the new exhibits will feature about 5,000 specimens from 95 different countries.
Reservations to the gallery will be included in general admission tickets that are now available at amnh.org.
