The Jazz and Colors Festival, conceived by Peter Shapiro, successfully created an atmoesphere of festive and serendipidous discovery and made jazz accessible in every sense of the word.
Jazz and Colors featured 30 groups interpreting the same two sets of standards, at the same time, throughout Central Park - a large scale performance piece made up of countless small scale impressions.
The roster of artists, mostly booked by Brice Rosenbloom, who produces the Winter Jazzfest, covered an admirable diversity of styles.
