A Blog by Michael Angelo Falco, that appeared in the Huffingtonpost.com, tells his personal story along with his photos taken in Central Park the day of the blizzard known as Jonas, that hit NYC on January 23rd, and left a record breaking amount of snow in a 1 day period.
He writes that New Yorkers and some lucky tourists got a rare view of the park and a chance to see a city that was brought to a screeching halt by a massive snow storm. He writes about the irony that up until a few days before the storm, officials from the Central Park Conservancy had hired snow makers from upstate New York to create a snow field for the park's upcoming Winter Jam Festival. Which had to be cancelled due to the huge amount of snow that fell on the day of the planned snow festival.
He goes on to report that over 42 million people visit the park each year, and thousands made it to the park that day during the storm. Some travelled to and through the park on snow shoes, while others went cross-country skiing and of course sledding in the park. He writes, that when heavy snow is falling in the city, he runs out with his camera to capture the special moments of Central Park in the snow, not for bread and milk.
