Snow making machines from Gore Mountain are running full blast in Central Park in preparation for Winter Jam 2013. Set to take place this Saturday, January 23rd, the event is a free annual winter sports festival that encourages New Yorkers to enjoy the outdoors in the cold weather through downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. Other activities include quidditch lessons, animal tracking with the Urban Park Rangers, a winter market, live entertainment and a special Doggie Snow Zone.
Last year’s event was cancelled due to mild weather. Despite the warmest year on record, this week will see temperatures hovering in the 20’s, perfect for snowmaking. Friday may even bring natural snow with a possible storm predicted.
