The Central Park Conservancy, a non-profit, is arguing for long term control over Wollman Rink rather than the city awarding another short-term contract to a commercial operator who's priorities always lie with profits over the public’s interest. Just sayin.
However, so far, the City has rejected the nonprofit’s offer in favor of a short-term approach that would award a five-year contract to a commercial operator, ultimately taking profits out of the park. The Trump Organization was the last for-profit commercial operator. Their contract was cancelled in January.
The CPC is still in the running for the contract, along with private companies that have submitted other offers, but Parks has made it clear that the competitive bidding process will prevail.
