Despite Mayor DeBlasio's condemnation of the treatment of Central Park carriage horses, every horse receives a mandatory five-week vacation break.
After an intense selection process, Norman Martin, a horse trainer from Lancaster, Pennsylvania spends up to a year training horses for the carriage trade in Central Park. He finds their fears and hitches and slowly works them out.
"I try to find everything here that they don’t like that they will encounter in the city," Martin said.
These horses then revisit the farm in Lancaster for up to three months a year.
