This past Saturday the Parks Department held the annual Winter Jam in Central Park. While some visitors complained of the weather being too cold, others took advantage of the free activities such as skiing, sledding, snowshoeing and snowboarding.
To supplement the foot of snow that had already accumulated in the city last week, the Parks Department brought in eight snow guns.
Deputy Commissioner of the Parks Department, Bob Garfola, explained, "We specifically wanted to make [the hills] a little higher this year, wanted to get a little more speed, a little more adventure for the kids, so they can really understand what it's like and really feel the thrill of going down a hill."
Participants endured long lined to experience that thrill surrounded by the skyscrapers of New York City.
