Nov 8, 2023 - A century-old living memorial of trees, stretching along the Fifth Avenue wall from East 69th to East 71st streets, forms the Women Veterans Memorial Grove in Central Park.
Despite standing for years, this memorial went unnoticed by many New Yorkers and tourists until its rediscovery five years ago!
Since then, an annual ceremony has been held at this historic location, paying tribute to women service members from both the past and present.
Organized by the American Red Cross in Greater New York and the city’s Department of Veterans’ Services, the ceremony has become a meaningful part of Veterans and Military Families Month in November.
