May 23rd, 2025 - The Central Park Conservancy has launched a new Ranger Corps to improve visitor experience and address quality-of-life issues in the park, such as dogs off-leash at unauthorized times and bikes on pathways.
These rangers, formerly community relations coordinators, now wear uniforms and work closely with the Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP) and NYPD. They also assist homeless individuals by connecting them with the Department of Homeless Services when needed.
Since the program began in April, rangers have handled thousands of situations, responding to public calls for greater presence and support. The rangers focus on informing visitors about park rules rather than enforcement, aiming to care for both the people and the park.
Currently, six rangers patrol the park daily, with hopes to expand the team to over 20.
