April 26, 2025 - The Davis Center at Harlem Meer, a $160 million redevelopment of the outdated Lasker Rink and Pool, officially opened on April 26, 2025, marking a major upgrade for the northern end of Central Park.
Designed to blend naturally into the park’s landscape, the center features a striking green roof, panoramic views, and a versatile aquatic facility known as the Gottesman Pool, which converts into an ice rink during winter and is covered by a turf field called the Harlem Oval in spring and fall.
The center offers a range of free and low-cost community programs including swim lessons, family swim days, art workshops, and nature activities. Its design emphasizes sustainability and ecology, incorporating restored wetlands and boardwalks that create a nature-like retreat.
The new Davis Center replaces the old facility that suffered from chronic flooding and limited accessibility, transforming the area into a welcoming, inclusive space that reconnects the Harlem community with Central Park.
