A couple fell out of a row boat on the Central Park Lake yesterday, eliciting a heafty emergency response team that included members of the FDNY, NYPD and "quite a number of helicopters," according to one eye witness.
The man reported that he reached into the lake for an oar that had fallen when the boat capsized, leaving the couple stranded in six feet of murky water.
Onlookers stood back in horror commenting, "I would probably panic because the water is really gross and I don't know what's in it." (Fish and turtles, according to Loeb Boathouse.)
The couple was rescued by a Central Park Boathouse employee and a policeman who rowed out to them and brought them safely back to shore.
Though the couple was described as "a little nervous" hangin on to another boat when rescuers approached them, they managed to pull through the event without an injuries.
