ABCNewsGo.com reported on a couple who had picked the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park as their reception venue because it was quintessentially New York, with spectacular views of the lake and the park. Little did they know that the Pope would pick that day to visit Central Park.
Many of the guests invited are police officers who are now unable to attend, becuase they will be on Pope detail. Working with the police department they decided to rent two buses to take their 150 guests to the park so everyone arrives at the reception venue at the same time. Although they have a tight time frame to arrive at the Boathouse before the complete shutdown of the area around the Boathouse.
Bagpipers who were also scheduled to play at the reception also had to cancel. One of the bagpipers enlisted the help of retirees to play in their place. The couple who will miss out on seeing the Pope here in NYC, will get a chance when they honeymoon in Rome next week.
