Flaco, the Eurasian eagle-owl, grabbed global attention after seizing an opportunity created by vandalism at the Central Park Zoo to escape.
Despite concerns from the NYPD and zoo personnel about his survival, Flaco proved resilient. He taught himself to fly skillfully and sustain himself by feasting on the abundant population of rats in the city.
Bird watchers speculate that he might be on the lookout for a mate, though his chances are slim, given that he's believed to be the sole representative of his species in North America.
There's something about Flaco that tugs at our heartstrings. Stay safe out there, Flaco!
