Though it may not feel like it with weather in the 40s, spring began four days ago. Central Park is ahead of the weather and ready for the season as the Conservancy has been preparing for it for months. In preparation for the hoards of visitors that will descend upon the park, the Conservancy has planted 57,000 flowers, tested and activated 1,400 sprinkler heads and turned on eight decorative fountains. They've also hauled 850 tons of mulch for garden beds, 500 tons of clay for ballfields, 200 tons of crushed stone for bridal paths and 108 tons of sand for the sandboxes. Finally, they are mowing 276 acres of lawns and ballfields.
