This past Sunday Central Park was the grounds for an impromptu fundraiser in support of the recovery effort for Typhoon Haiyan, which devastated the Philippines. The run was originally intended to raise funds for victims of last month's earthquake in the Philippines, but the money raised will now also be distributed to survivors of the typhoon. Many of the participants were members of local Filipino groups and had relatives and close ties to the country. According to organizers, the event raised over $100,000.
