Oct 3, 2023 - Each year, the Conservancy temporarily closes access to several park lawns for long-term maintenance.
This year, the Great Lawn is closing a few weeks earlier than usual, despite the beautiful weather, due to significant damage sustained during a large event held amidst heavy rainstorms.
Numerous lawns are regularly fenced off and closed during the winter months to facilitate routine turf maintenance for the upcoming growing season.
The Global Citizen Concert took a toll on the Great Lawn, causing approximately one-third of it to be damaged due to heavy rains. Event promoters, including Global Citizen, are contractually obligated to cover the costs of any such damage, including the purchase of seed and related expenses.
