After a year of much appreciated online entertainment, there will be live shows this summer in Central Park, but they will not be business as usual pre-pandemic. With restrictions constantly shifting it is difficult to plan ahead and keep everyone safe.
City Parks decided to focus its SummerStage season at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem and Central Park “because those are the two spaces where you can control the egress and the exiting of crowds comfortably,” Heather Lubov explained, executive director of the City Parks Foundation. The organization also plans to rent bathroom trailers with running water, instead of port-o-potties, and will have workers disinfect the facilities after every use. Meanwhile, rather than hosting performers at its bandshell, Lincoln Center will build a cabaret-style stage at Hearst Plaza and a large lawn for lounging.
