Aug 28, 2023 - A revolutionary version of baseball is creating new opportunities for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
In an event held at Central Park last Sunday, the Lighthouse Guild and the U.S. Blind Baseball Association joined forces to empower novice players to overcome challenges.
With blindfolds in place, participants skillfully maneuvered around the bases, relying on distinct sounds to guide their running directions. Positioned as the sole sighted individual on the field, the second baseman's claps intensified as the batter approached home plate.
Their collective aspiration is to motivate more visually impaired and blind residents of New York to take their chances at hitting home runs.
The Lighthouse Guild is actively seeking a permanent practice venue for the team, complete with a turf field that eliminates concerns about stumbling or falling.
