The galleries and public spaces that house the collection of modern and contemporary art will finally get a full renovation, after being postponed for more than 10 years.
This extraordinary gift of $125 million dollars for this project comes from Oscar Tang and his wife Agnes Hsu-Tang. This donation is the largest capital gift the Met has ever received in its 151 - year history. Mr. Tang is a retired financier and trustee for the museum for three decades. He has financed previous projects and made numerous donations of ancient Chinese paintings. The new space will bear the names of Mr. Tang and his wife.
