The issue of exactly how public parks should be funded has been called into question recently with Democratic mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio supporting a bill that would redistribute donations intended for better cared for parks like Central Park, to parks in lower income neighborhoods. The bill would mandate any conservancy with a budget of $5 million or more to distribute 20 percent of its funds to lesser cared for parks. Opponants of the bill argue that taking the control away from contributors over where their dollars go will cut down donations.
