The new operator of Central Park's landmark Tavern on the Green restaurant is the owner of a Philadelphia crêperie and lounge, city officials announced on Thursday.
The Emerald Green Group, which owns Beau Monde and L'Etage, beat out four other bidders for the 20-year license from the city's Department of Parks and Recreation. After extensive renovations, the group in the fall of 2013 plans to open a 300-seat casual restaurant, along with an outdoor café offering another 200 to 300 seats.
The menu will be overseen by chef Katy Sparks, a consultant who has previously worked at New York restaurants such as the Quilted Giraffe, Mesa Grill, Bolo and Quilty's.
Ms. Sparks said she intends to make the cuisine global, but with local ingredients.
