Three successful collegues - Tim Kenney, John Bender and Enda McDonnel - began head shaving fundraisers for children with cancer in 1999 as a way to give back in return for their own good fortune. Since then they have held begun holding events around the country. They began the St. Baldrick's foundation in 2005, that has since raised $100 million in childhood cancer research grants. Each year the Hero Celebration Head-Shaving Research Event for Childhood Cancer Research is held at the Central Park Boathouse to raise funds and awareness for the cause.
This year Almar Sales Company - a company that specializes in designing, manufacturing and distributing fashion hair accessories, costume jewelry and cosmetics - and Candlelighters NYC - an organization dedicated to helping families navigate the difficulties of coping with a child diagnosed with and being treated for cancer - will be sponsoring the event.
Barbara Zobian, President of Candlelighters NYC has been a longtime supporter of St. Baldrick's and recruits friends from various organizations to make donations from venues to goods and services. Allen Ash, Vice-President of Almar Sales Co. is also a board member of Candlelighters NYC. When he learned about the organization he offered his resources and Princess Expression dress-up products to children affected by the disease.
This year's event will be held March 14, at 5:00pm.
