This past year has threatened the trees of Central Park with some incredibly bad storms. Last August, more than 500 trees were destroyed and another 1,000 were severely damaged. Plus the downpours and flooding of March 2010, did not help the situation and there has been reportedly more than $3 million in damage.
Instead of taking the backseat, Central Park workers have started to replace these uprooted trees. According to the Central Park Conservancy, the goal is to plant 275 trees and 520 shrubs in the near future.
Fittingly, this announcement of re-greening Central Park coincides with the end of the NYC Parks & Recreation Department's MillionTreesNYC month during April 2010.
