NYC officials are looking to open a more casual version of the once glitzy Tavern on the Green restaurant in Central Park, which generated $38 million a year in revenues before it closed on New Year’s Day 2010.
The city granted Dean Poll, who operates the Loeb Boathouse restaurant, a license to run the restaurant but Poll was unable to reach an agreement with the union that represents former Tavern employees. The new design plan would reduce the restaurant's indoor space from 22,000 square feet to just over 10,000 square feet.
