Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez , the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, spoke to crowds at the 2019 Women's March with a clear message: “We will pass ... an equal rights amendment that ensures that all people, regardless of their gender identity, will be respected by the laws of this land”. She spoke with the fiery passion that has made her a household name since her win as the Democratic representative of New York, and reminded the crowd that the march took place only one week before Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The third annual event, hosted by the "Women's March Alliance" took place in cities across the country, including New York. Starting at 72nd Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West, the marchers made their way to 44th Street and 6th Avenue.
Since the march had been marked by controversy, a second march held by "Women's March NYC" took place at Foley Square.
A third Non-March for Disabled Women was held at Grand Central Station.
