Letsrun.com reported on what has beome a traditional event in Central Park, the midnight run, and that a pair of unicorns were spotted ringing in the New Year in style. This is the 37th year of this run that begins at the stroke of midnight.
Sarah Pagano and Daniel Winn, both of whom represent the Boston Athletic Association, won the classic four-mile road race with times of 18:34 and 21:13, respectively, while teammate Katie Matthews was second for women.
The Midnight Run draws over 6,000 runners each year to compete in the four-mile race. In addition to the race, there is a live DJ spinning music at the Naumberg Bandshell and a holiday costume contest. Runners range from very competitive to those simply along for the ride however there is a prize of $500 for the male and female winners.
